Mr. Hideshi Inoue, former resident of Hashima Island

We are united, you know, in terms of everything. From each other's families to everything else.

"Born on Hashima Island in 1929 as the fourth son of eight brothers, Mr. Hideshi Inoue started working as a surveyor at the Hashima Coal Mine in 1944 at the age of 14. He worked as a surveyor for about 13 years and then as a mine pit safety technician for seven years in coal mining and excavating operations.
He told us valuable stories about what it was like in the mines during the war and his experiences when the entire island blacked out due to Futago Power Station being bombed by the military aircraft of the United States Armed Forces. He passed away in 2016 in Nagasaki City."
