Mr. YAMOCHI Kuniho, a former resident of Hashima Island

Hashima is by no means an "Island of Hell"; if anything, it's a paradise.

Born on Hashima Island in 1936, he spent his boyhood there until leaving in 1946, the year after the war ended. He lived in an area known as "Shiofuri-machi" before moving to the fifth floor of Building No. 30, where he was living when the war concluded. He recalls a sudden flash of bright light while he was in a room on the west side of his home at the time the atomic bomb was dropped. It is said that the internment facility for Chinese laborers was clearly visible from his residence.
