Mr. Sakae Matsumoto, former resident of Hashima Island
I wondered what was the so-called different treatment given to the Korean people compared to that of the people in Japan
Born in Miyazaki Prefecture in 1928, he moved to Hashima Island with his family when he was in elementary school. He lived on the Island until the closure of the Hashima Coal Mine.As a boy, he helped his parents run a tofu shop in Hashima Island and worked as a surveyor in the coal mines during the war.
Following the war, he served as an executive of the cooperative society and labor unions in the island, and is currently the honorary president of the "Hashima Islanders' Association for the Pursuit of True History."
