Video Message “Who is Yeon Cheol Koo?”

He claims that Gunkanjima to him is “where the darkest history for my Korean people is buried.”

An elderly man, who allegedly was living in Gunkanjima during World War II, delivered a speech at the August 2017 convention of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions that is considering of placing a so-called statue of conscripted Korean worker in front of the Japanese Consulate General in Busan, Korea. This man who identifies himself as Yeon Cheol Koo alleges that Gunkanjima to him is “where the darkest history for my Korean people is buried.” However, former Hashima Islanders could not help questioning how truthful all that he relates is.
